During one of our conversations the week of April 17th Anders told me he got his list of trips, I was really excited because the trips all ended up here in Nanticoke! He asked me if I'd like to go across the lake with him on one of them
for a short trip...(duh???) :o) Really...why does he ask?? You really think that I'm going to say NO??? :o) He said we should wait to plan which trip until it's closer to the end of the week to be sure the trips stay the same, since I didn't want to get over there and not be able to get back again! On Thursday the 21st they were still on the schedule although the date of arrival kept changing because of a wicked spring storm on Lake Huron that was keeping Anders at anchor in front of Cathy's house in Detour! Finally on the 26th the ship arrived in Nanticoke and I went down to the ship. Anders wanted to come home for awhile but had some business to attend to first so I hung around on the ship with him for a hour or so then we came home for a few hours. Its great that he can get off the ship for awhile and come home and see all the work I've done!! ha ha
We went back to the ship around dinner time but ended up not leaving the dock probably until around 11PM. But that was okay I wasn't in a hurry! I had put the dogs up in the kennel down the road so they would be fine and left the cats enough food and water for a couple days, we would be back again on Thursday morning. There was a slight delay already because the Halifax had left the Stelco dock and was in Ashtabula already. We would be anchoring outside the piers when we got there so when Anders got the ship out on the lake he didn't put her full ahead since there really was no rush this time and it would save on a lot of $$$$ fuel! We got a GREAT nights sleep together and got up around 6 AM so Anders could drop the anchor. I don't remember what time it was that we went in but it was a pretty nice sunny day.
Always love seeing the sunshine sparkling on the water.
Anders got some "coolbeans" new controls for the ship this year. It doesn't make the neat "pshhhhhhh" sound anymore though but it's pretty neat anyway! Looks like he's "driving" a speedboat!
Anders backing the ship into Ashtabula Piers...lots of stress huh? :o)
Course THIS is what he's looking at....wouldn't help me any!!!
His view of the green light on the port side.
This is the view I had of my husband for a lot of the time I was there. Amazing how much paperwork he has
to do these days. It takes up a lot of the time he has out of the wheelhouse especially on short runs like just going across Lake Erie and back.
It was sometime this afternoon that we got word that no, we wouldn't be going back to Nanticoke with this load after all....the sure thing got changed. Guess there was a tanker there that was going to delay us too long so they were going to send us to Lambton. Then back to Ashtabula/Nanticoke. I was going to be late...did I leave my kitties enough food?
Heading out on the Lake Thursday morning beautiful time of day. CSL Salty over there loading or unloading something...:o)
Love those tug boats!!
The piles almost look like mountains in the shadows..
Really? Can it get much better? Seeing the sunrise over the water? I don't think so..well okay one way it would be better would be if I was watching it from our front yard with Anders at home!! But this would do for now!! :o)
Later that afternoon Anders found out that he wouldn't be going back to Ashtabula after all. He was going to Godrich / Conneaut. So we decided I'ld better get off in Lambton so I could go home and feed our cats! Next time I'ld be MORE prepared and leave them more food!!
We had to take a nap going across Lake Erie for a bit since we'ld be in Lambton around 1:30am and I had a 3 hour Taxi ride home after that. When we got up we were almost to South East Shoals so we went up to the Wheelhouse.
The pictures above are what I took on our way up the Detroit and St. Clair rivers towards Lambton. Saw Mike Nichols out there in his boat taking pictures! Guess we should of gone out and waved hello!!
When we got to Lambton we waited until about 2:30am for my taxi to arrive. Then Anders walked me down..I told him I'll see you Monday..( one way to make it easier to say goodbye for sure.:o) Then I got in the taxi and we drove to Nanticoke to get my car. I arrived back at our beautiful Lakeshore home around 6am ..called Anders to tell him I was safely home then went to bed!
Hope you enjoyed my short little journey..I love taking the pictures and sharing them. It really is a beautiful place out there on the lake and I love it more and more every time I go.
Until Later! Happy Sailing!
