December 2005 - What a crazy month!!! The past three years I had been going on the ship with Anders in late December and staying until Lay up. This year I wasn't going to be able to do that as I was actually going to get my two beautiful children to drive out to spend Christmas with me! I of course was xx my fingers and toes that Anders would be home for the holidays but for sure wasn't going to hold my breath. The weather was getting bad and the ice was growing with leaps and bounds making
things really difficult. Anders was due to make a trip to Hamilton then back up the canal to go to Ashtabula then lay up the ship be cause of all the ice etc. If all went according to schedule he'd be home Christmas eve.... Wow!! Did I dare get excited? No...I didn't.. with the cold temperatures and the ice I knew very well that schedule could change in the blink of an eye. My kids arrived on December 22nd around 10 that night. It was the first time my son had come out to the house and I hadn't seen either of my kids since October!!
Anders was to the canal I'm not remembering the day but anyone who follows boatnerd I am assuming knows what happened. A ship in front of him got stuck in lock 7 and I don't remember how many ships it held up for 2 or 3 days but there were alot of tired Captains by the time it was over! By that time they had changed his schedule so many times I just decided that he wasn't going to be home for awhile and tried to just relaxed and enjoyed the time with my children. On Christmas Eve day he called me and said I better sit down. So I did of course I was holding my breath too. He said "We are laying her up, I'll be home tomorrow afternoon" Oh my gosh...!! My daughter was looking at me and she said the waterworks just turned right on! ha ha Was I excited?? Man YES!!! So Christmas day after lunch I got in the car, drove to Hamilton and picked up my sailor guy...the best Christmas Present I ever could of asked for my children AND my Sailor Guy!! |

We had an awesome winter , spending January just enjoying being together again. February we took a trip to Denver to visit my Brother, sister in law , and my Mom. Also drove out to Vermont to visit my kids again. Also had Anders company meetings to attend in St. Catherine's , that's always a blast..:o) February flew by faster than I could count to 10 I swear. Then March came and before I knew it the office was calling to tell him to come back to work!! Dang it all anyway!! So March 16th first thing we got in the car and headed out to bring him back to ...... the ship....Some people I know are very excited that shipping season is starting again..I however am not one of them! :o) I spend the first week he's gone doing tons of projects
just to keep me from missing all the things he and I do together. Then after that I wait for him to tell me when he's going to arrive in Nanticoke so I can drive down and pick him up to come home for a few hours! times a waiting!!! |

Its been awhile since I've written a story and posted in online here. Not for any other reason then I've been here on the home front! Anders went to work Mid March and came home the first of May, since my Daughter was graduating from College and we both wanted to attend that. |

Also that weekend was exciting because my Son and his girlfriend got Engaged! So now Anders will have to have next May off too so we can go to a Wedding! |

Anyhow, So he was at work the month of June, then home in July because his relief on the ship needed August off because HE was getting married! (must be going around...:o) We had a great vacation in July which went by way to fast since we were traveling most of it. To Vermont, New Hampshire and all along the East Coast of the US to Myrtle Beach, SC., then back here to Canada again! So since I normally only go out on the Ship when Anders is at work for a couple months at a time , this has been my first opportunity. Whew..that was a long explanation eh? :o) |
