"Sailing" May 2005 - Page 3!

Still find this view amazing...that lock just looks
way too small for this HUGE ship to fit in!!!!

Squeezing into the lock, there was one lone boatnerd there to watch us that early morning. Course if someone in particular had been there she would of still be in bed sleeping too.."o)

Hauling the wires out to tie up the ship. It is fun to watch everybody working while I'm standing around doing nothing...hee hee

I guess these new condos are boatnerd paradise at the Soo. They look pretty nice and if you like Ships...well they are in a great spot being there right at the end of the lock wall!

By the time I saw this view I was saying "THANK GOD , I can go to bed soon!!"
Lake Superior up ahead! And thats just what we did! We had a great sleep til about 1:30 that afternoon.

Hmmm some ship....??

When I woke up and looked out Anders window this is what I saw. The guys grease these cables every year.
Not too sure I'ld like that job myself!!!

Moonlight on the water...what could be better??
We actually got to bed at a "normal" time tonight around 11 and got up around 8. Nice..we both needed that!

We arrived in Duluth around 11:30 but went right to Anders favorite anchoring spot as we had to wait for
two ships that were ahead of us.

Later on that afternoon a saltie came to join our anchor party, but he'ld be waiting much longer.

It was late that night when we started heading into the piers or early in the morning whichever way
you want to think of it! The moon was full and bright lighting up everything it touched.

Heading into the piers I think it was around 1:30am and yep there were two boatnerds
sitting on the piers! Theres always a few around! Anders got um with his spot light! They cheered!!

It was a beautiful night/morning. :o)

Here we are at Midwest Energy waiting for the St. Clair to ....well, get out of the way! ha ha
We arrived at the loading dock around 4am in the morning? We went to bed only to hear that darn phone.... Immigration to see me around 9am.....so of course we just stayed up then as the ship pretty much only takes 5 hours to load so wasn't much point in trying to go back to sleep. We went up to the wheelhouse and watched the Paul R come in to wait for us to leave.

I thought this was really funny! I guess the guys on some of the 1000 footers use bikes to get from one end to the other!
Never seen it before but here ya go!! I would think that would be a strange feeling biking on a moving ship!
Guess some of them have golf carts too!

almost done! covering up the hatches at last!

The big Paul R..hanging around...:o)

Getting ready to take our space!

Hmmm I think he wants us to move!! And that we did, Midwest Energy sure was busy that day..4 ships back to back and who knows who came in after the Paul R.

Heading for the Duluth Bridge

I dunno what is it about the water that makes any picture beautiful?

always someone there to say HELLO to!!
Now there was somebody there taking pictures of us...where are they????? :o)
We were out on the lake clear of the piers around 11:30 that morning.
Had a nice day out on the lake, after Anders got his work done we just spent time hanging around together..very nice!
We went to bed after the 24 finale..so now all my favorite shows are done for the season..! Good thing!
Living on the lake its tooo nice to be inside watching TV in the summer!!
We were called for Anders notice for the St. Marys River around 3:30pm the next day.
Nice! The river in daylight!

Another "Algo" boat..:o)

Heading towards the locks, I was standing outside..it was a beautiful day!!

Tour boat not too full yet but it won't be long!
Captain was too busy making the lock wall to come and wave though sorry!!
But I did!

The guys getting ready to go "walk" the boat...:o)

Sliding the wall. This is way to much fun...:o)

Downtown Sault St. Marie, Michigan

I really want to play at this mini golf!!!

Marvin finally getting to rest after that long walk from where Anders dropped him off!
We figured out on the chart that its almost 2 miles. !

Yep thats my sailor guy, doing what he does best. And for sure what he loves to do.."play boat"!
I sure love him too! ( just incase you didn't know...:o)

This guy is gving hand signals as to how much further the ship has to go into the locks,
Then someone else down there radios Anders and tells him, he radios the guys on the ships and then
they all repeat it. 25 meters, 10, 5, 3, 1. And somehow Anders stops the ship. :o)

looks like a tight squeeze to me!! Anders and I chatted with some folks in the viewing stand. He was telling the people
there that I was his wife so all of a sudden they were all taking pictures of us. It was kinda neat. There was a couple there from Arkansas! Anders says he can't believe people from that far away come to the locks to see Ships!!

Hey look! There was a boatnerd waving at us at Mission Point and she sent me this picture she took!
Can you see me? :o) Thanks Carol! Neat picture!

A nice day so there were crew members out walking around the deck for exercise.
There were a bunch of "boatnerds" at mission point . I Thought I got pictures but I guess not!
Thanks for all the greetings though!

This narrow channel takes us to the Rock Cut. Anders showed me how narrow it is
and the fact that if you go out of the markers there is 0 feet of water there!!
