So I think I was aboard around 1500 ( 3:00PM my time) ( Now keep in mind I got up at 6Am this morning and Anders got up at 7AM) I find out that there was "no rush" in getting to the ship as we have to wait for not just the Algomarine ( who I actually beat getting there just walking fast) and also the TRAMPER a really cool Big Lift Ship.
Photos above: Algomarine heading out to Lake Erie, Lift bridge back down again, differnet view of the tug, Tramper coming up.
Neat looking ship, while we were waiting they had a pilot change there before entering the lake. I'm glad Anders doesn't have to do that.
There was also lots of discussion about my race down to the dock and the fact that I didn't need to. :o)
While approaching the lock these old vintage cars were in line together waiting. I felt like we had gone back in time!
July 16th 1541 or my time 3:41 we were approaching Lock 8, below the lock we met The English River and shortly after a Canadian Coast Guard Boat coming and going! ( I still have a hard time with the upbound and downbound thing..I still want to call it up since we are heading North..Anders says thats because I'm a Lake Champlain Sailor..:o) It was during the time in the lock when I was looking at our car , when I thought unfortuantly out loud. " I wonder if I remembered to throw away the rest of my chicken sandwich and milk from Tim Hortons" Oh boy did THAT ever start some conversation!
1745 ( 5:45PM) We were approaching the Allenburg bridge and hoping it would go up...and stay up. I went down and got Anders and I some dinner that we ate up in the wheelhouse since he can't leave while hes in the canal. 1828 (6:28PM) We are approaching lock 7.
1829 (6:29) Still approaching the lock I can see Lake Ontario ahead, so close but I know so far away!! 1907 (7:07PM) Lock gates are opening and we are off to Lock 6.
1936 ( 7:36PM) we are in lock 6 getting ready to go down while a CSL ship is going up next to us.
Oh well I guess it was the Paul J Martin...:o)
By 2036 ( 9:36PM) we were going down the rest of the flight locks. The rest of the trip was in the dark , by the time we got to lock 2 I was almost asleep standing up! I had to keep getting up to walk around or I went down a couple times to the galley to get Anders and I a snack. We were at Port Weller Piers by 1AM on July 17th. After the course was made towards the Hamilton Bridge and Anders left his orders we went down to take a nap. Short for sure as its pretty quick across the lake but every little bit helps on this route. After sleeping an hour and a half the phone rang and it was Anders 1/2 hour call to the bridge. So the bridge was called and the dock was called and the harbor master was called, I think that was it..:o) Soon we were on our way into the harbor, Anders docked the ship at Defasco and then we went down to get a good sleep while the ship was unloading. ( It was now 0530 , 5:30AM ) Course the loading gear is right next to his room so once it went on it was pretty loud, but I'm used it now sounds like a really loud fan to me. I was out in no time.
